Why is Internal Link Juicer's link count not showing in the Yoast SEO column?

The Yoast SEO columns for incoming and outgoing links primarily count links that are manually added or those generated directly by Yoast's own internal linking features, particularly its Premium version's tool. Automated links created by a separate third-party plugin like Internal Link Juicer are often not recognised or included in the link count that Yoast SEO displays in the post list columns, as the two plugins do not typically integrate for this specific statistic.

What can I do to see all my internal links in one place?

You should check the dedicated statistics or dashboard section within the Internal Link Juicer plugin, as this is where its automatically generated links, keywords, and related metrics are displayed. Alternatively, for a full, accurate count including links from all sources, you may need to use an external website crawling tool like Screaming Frog, which analyses all visible links.

Does Google also differentiate between manually created and automatically created links created by a separate third-party plugin?

Does Google also differentiate between manually created and automatically created links created by a separate third-party plugin?

Google's primary concern with both automated and manual links is their quality, relevance, and the context in which they appear, not the method of creation itself. While automated internal linking plugins are widely used and acceptable for scale, they carry a higher risk of generating unnatural link patterns or irrelevant, over-optimised anchor text, which Google's systems can detect as manipulative or low-quality. A manually placed link, however, is generally better because it is usually more contextually relevant and focused on user experience.

That’s an excellent question — and one that many WordPress users encounter when they start combining Yoast SEO with Internal Link Juicer.

Here’s how I’d break it down from experience:

First, Yoast’s internal link counter only tracks links that it recognises within the WordPress editor content field. Since Internal Link Juicer adds links dynamically — often during content rendering or through shortcodes — Yoast doesn’t “see” them in the database when counting links. So, you’ll likely see a zero or low number even if the plugin is adding plenty of contextual links in real time.

If you want a true picture of your internal linking structure, I’d suggest:
    • Using Internal Link Juicer’s dashboard: It offers detailed keyword mapping and shows exactly which posts and pages are linking where.
    • Running a crawl with Screaming Frog or Sitebulb: These tools can read your rendered HTML like Googlebot does, giving you a full list of links — including those inserted automatically.
    • Combining with Google Search Console: You can check which URLs Google considers internally linked through the Links > Internal Links report.

As for Google, it doesn’t care whether a link was placed manually or via a plugin — only whether it’s relevant, natural, and contextually valuable. Automated linking can save time, but it’s crucial to keep anchor diversity and relevance in check to avoid over-optimisation signals.

Have you noticed any discrepancies between what Internal Link Juicer reports versus what your SEO tools or crawlers show? That might help narrow down how deep the issue goes.

The Internal Link Juicer’s link count doesn’t appear in the Yoast SEO column because both plugins handle internal linking data differently. Yoast SEO only displays internal link counts generated and tracked within its own system, while Internal Link Juicer manages and inserts links dynamically at runtime.

In other words, Yoast can’t “see” the automated links created by Internal Link Juicer since they aren’t stored in the WordPress database as static links — they’re added when the post is rendered. If you want to verify Internal Link Juicer’s links, check them directly in the plugin’s dashboard or by viewing the post on the front end.

It sounds like you’ve already got a solid understanding of how Yoast handles link counts. Since Yoast only tracks links it can detect within the editor or ones created through its own features, it’s normal for Internal Link Juicer’s automated links not to appear there. Checking ILJ’s own dashboard or using a crawler like Screaming Frog is definitely the best way to get a full picture. As for Google, it doesn’t really care whether links are manual or automatic — what matters is relevance and natural placement. As long as your internal links genuinely help users, you’re on the right track.
