Mark Zuckerberg, founded Facebook while studying psychology at Harvard University.
In February 2004 Mr Zuckerberg launched "The facebook", as it was originally known; the name taken from the sheets of paper distributed to freshmen, profiling students and staff. Within 24 hours, 1,200 Harvard students had signed up, and after one month, over half of the undergraduate population had a profile.
In 2004, an angel investor, Sean Parker (founder of Napster) became the company's president. The company changed the name from TheFacebook to just Facebook after purchasing the domain name facebook.com in 2005 for $200,000.

Facemash, the Facebook’s predecessor, opened on October 28, 2003.Initially, the website was invented by a Harvard student, Mark Zuckerberg, and three of his cl***mates – Andrew McCollum, Chris Hughes and Dustin Moskovitz.
