ASP programming based project

I want to make my project in ASP.NET. But I have read an article on web site design company site that for this VB.NET knowledge is essential for this, is it necessary one must have knowledge about VB.NET? Plz suggest good definitions.

though it is not necessary to learn VB.net for ASP.net.But if u know it in advance then it becomes easy to learn ASP.net as alot of tags are same
