The log files from your web site traffic can be an important aspect of your SEO research. You can find an amazing amount of information embedded within the logs. You will come to know the terms which are bringing to you the traffic and may not have even thought of these terms and would not have even optimized for them, but people are flowing into the site using those terms. In addition, you can know which search engine is giving more traffic to you.Make time to check your log files at least once a week to see what information pops up that can help you determine your next SEO strategy.

Web Site Statistics are a very important part of marketing and growing your online business. Without the knowledge of what is happening on your site, you cannot make plans for the future. Without a plan for the future, you cannot grow your online business.
Most web hosts provide log files. When properly analyzed these web log files will provide a history of everything that has happened on your web site. This information is the most valuable information a web site owner can have. Not only can web site statistics tell you where and when there was a problem, how people found your site and what they saw, but also proper web log analysis can tell you so much more.
Web log analysis takes these raw web logs and makes them easy to understand. Log analysis software only takes care of half the process. These software programs organize the data in the raw logs, but do analyze the web site traffic activity. Log analysis software cannot analyze what is happening on your web site.

Really it is a very nice experience to analyze log file. Yesterday I analyzed my log files and it shows some surprising things, which I like to share with forum.
I have a website name http://www.jypo.com which contents regional information and a few tips and tricks to optimize windows performance. On this site daily average 200 visitors, 800 pages view and 1700 hit.
When I analyzed my log files I got –
On my website 65% visitors from United State. Only 10% from India and rest 25% visitor from rest part of the world. Daily average 60 visitors come from search engines (more then 90% from google) with 50 different search phrases. But the search phrases are not surprising for me. My log file says that Windows XP is the most popular OS. And it also shows that daily 15-20 people bookmark my pages (404 error for favicon.ico). And average daily 10 people try to use form mail script on unauthorized way.

General web statistics give pertinent information about website visitors. Webmasters analyzing these statistics have a better understanding of who their website visitors are and how they perceive the website. A lot can be learned by evaluating navigation patterns, most-viewed pages and exit pages. Deciphering web logs could easily become a full-time job. The information that can be gleaned from close log scrutiny is extremely valuable.
